Spherical VS Cylindrical goggle lenses

There are 2 types of lenses being used by snow goggle companies, spherical and cylindrical, both offer great performance and it really comes down to your budget. Your style points will be higher with the spherical lens, but in our opinion you will see just as well and get great performance with a cylindrical lens. Most companies offer the spherical in their higher end frames, and cylindrical in the lower priced products. The spherical lens looks curved, and helps maximize your field of view and generally comes in med to large sized frames. Spherical lenses  mimic the curvature of your eye to help give you superior vision in all directions.  At Action Sport Optics we offer a great selection of spherical lens options from respected brands like the Spy Platoon , Dragon APX , Anon Comrade , and the Scott Fix .  The cylindrical lens is also a great option, it is more flat and low profile, it does not have the curve that mimics the eyeball like the spherical lens.  The cylindrical lens is a bit more flexible and provides great protection, style, and performance at a cheaper price.  Action Sport Optics also has a great selection of cylindrical lens options from respected brands like the  Spy Zed , Dragon DX , and the Anon Helix .

Ski and Snowboard Goggle technologies

We thought it would be a great time to re post this, as we are pushing the middle of September, and ski and snowboard season is fast approaching! We are receiving new products from  Spy, Anon, Dragon, and Scott  and you can check them out in our snow section  of the website.  Here are some key features and benefits that can be found on goggles that will be in stock at ASO, remember, as very active participants we carry everything you need, and nothing you don’t.  If you have any questions about anything please hit us up via email @ info@actionsportoptics.com

Spherical Lenses

Spherical lenses have a consistent curve that helps in maximizing your field of view.  The lens mimics the curvature of your eye to give you a better vision in all directions.

Cylindrical Lenses

Cylindrical lenses are flat and more low profile, they do not have the curve that mimics the eyeball like the spherical lens.  The cylindrical lenses are a bit more flexible then spherical and give great protection and style at a cheaper price.

Dual Lens

A dual lens is basically 2 lenses with an airspace in between the two.  This insures proper climate control inside the goggle in the effort to keep vision clear in all conditions.

Anti-fog coatings

Most companies put an anti-fog coating on the inside of the lens to help prevent condensation and fogging, which can definitely put a damper on an epic day on the hill.

Lens tints

There is a wide range of lens tints in the goggle industry, which are trying to cover the spectrum of the entire visible light transmission (VLT) spectrum.  From blue bird days, to cloudy days, ASO tries to carry a range of brands and lens tints which work best in a broad range of conditions.

Mirrored and non mirrored lenses

Mirrored lenses help cut the glare and give you extra style points, while unmirrored are simple and straightforward and provide great protection.

Helmet compatibility

Are you wearing a helmet to protect your noggin? Alot of talk out there that is may become required, and in some places required already.  Goggle companies are increasingly concentrating on making sure their goggles are compatible with helmets for a good fit by adding what they call outriggers so the straps wrap around the outside of the helmet easily without pulling the goggle off your face and creating air gaps.

Face foams

The face foams are generally dual or triple layer, some even have a micro fleece layer that makes the contact with your face ultra-comfortable.  We would say that all of the foams in this day and age are very comfortable to the face, and create a good fit and help eliminate any gaps.

Air flow

Ventilation in a goggle is key in fighting the battle of a fog free day on the hill.  There are different names and patented technologies used by different companies, but they are all with the same purpose of improving your on hill experience by keeping your vision clear.

Silicone ribbed goggle straps

Most companies are adding a ribbon of silicone on the inside of the goggle strap, this is so it does not slip up, down, or off the outside of your helmet.

Dragon APX

Dragon APX  with infinity lens technology is the first frameless goggle in the industry and the newest innovation from this eyewear brand.

Dragon’s Pro Team tested this product under extreme conditions at over 12, 000 feet in the San Juan mountains. So far, the reports Action Sport Optics has received are super enthusiastic!

Product designers eliminated the frame so that you can enjoy super peripheral vision without sacrificing size. The Infinity Lens Technology design eliminates the need for a frame so that you get a less bulky piece of eyegear while retaining maximum vision.

Although the design is different, they offer a secure fit around your nose and hug the face comfortably. Armored Venting on top of the APX goggle funnels water away rather than absorbing it but it is the triple layered Polar-Tech micro fleece lining that helps your APX stay comfortable all day.

We all know that good eyewear needs to work well in intense conditions without fogging so we can enjoy great, clear visibility throughout the day. This snowboarding goggle allows optimum vision in a variety of riding conditions. It is always vital to be able to see what lies ahead!

Need additional technology details? Dragon APX offers optically correct lenses with dual lens ventilation with a super anti fog treatment on the interior lens. They also offer 100% UV protection, a uni-directional flow, and are compatible with a variety of helmets.

The Dragon APX goggles come with some nice lens options. Select a pink iondized lens for lower light days with grey skies. It allows for the maximum amount of light to get through so you can see the terrain and any bumps or ridges. The eclipse lens is a darker, mirrored lens that is perfect for use in high glare or on sunny, blue sky days while the yellow-blue iondized lens is great in all conditions (from sunny to cloudy).

Whatever your choice of lens, ASO knows that you’ll be thrilled with this product. If you haven’t already, check out the APX video to learn what went into the development this item.

Don’t forget to check out the Action Sport Optics goggle shop and if you are ready, buy Dragon APX now.
